The Children’s Cancer Center has a unique approach to supporting children and families after a cancer diagnosis. As you can imagine, it’s scary and overwhelming for the entire family. The folks at The Children’s Cancer Center recognize this and they provide services in such a holistic but important way. Not only do they help with emotional support and appointments etc. for a child diagnosed with cancer, they also cover for parents so they can have a night out, they plan special days focused only on a patient’s siblings so they don’t feel marginalized, and they sponsor events like painting, storytime, pajama parties, and days out in a way that is safe for children who are immunocompromised. Having walked through cancer myself, I have such a profound appreciation for the work the Children’s Cancer Center does. It is an overwhelming feeling and the disease can become the sole focus of so much of daily living between appointments, tests, hospitalizations, and not feeling great. To have a group of people who care so deeply and who provide moments of brightness, fun, and joy – it’s invaluable!
